Description
This module provides you with material to prepare a presentation or improve an already existing presentation by making it more listener-oriented. After completing this module, you will be able to:
- Explain why presenting is a form of communication
- Analyze the presenting situation to adapt your presentation accordingly
- Come up with ideas on how to use (body) language when presenting
- Explain the AIDA principle and apply it to structuring your own presentation
- Name aspects of visualization and apply these in your own power points/visualization methods
- Explain why performance anxiety is necessary to a certain point and use your nervousness to improve your performance
01: Situation analysis

Presenting is always a form of communication. To connect to your audience and make listening enjoyable to your presentations, a few aspects need to be kept in mind.
- Watch the video “Presenting is no one-way-street”.
- Fill out the worksheet “Situation Analysis”, referring to a presentation you will give in the future. Please include a concrete example.
02: (Body) language

Language – spoken, written and non-verbal - is your main medium to transfer your message to the audience. How can you make the best out of it?
- Watch the video of the worst research presentation ever and note what language mistakes are being made by the presenter.
- Fill out the worksheet “Mind your (body) language” and collect your ideas on how to use verbal and non-verbal language when conducting a presentation.
03: Structuring presentations

A concise structure allows you on the one hand to outline most complex topics, while on the other hand listeners are able to follow your presentation more fluently.
- Watch the video “AIDA Principle”
- Fill out the worksheet “Structuring a Presentation” for a presentation that you will be holding in the future. It is important to use a concrete setting so you can properly analyze the situation.
