CELPE-Bras

Celpe-Bras (Certificate of Proficiency in Portuguese as a Foreign Language) is the only official Brazilian exam that certifies proficiency in Portuguese as a foreign language. The exam is developed by the Instituto Nacional Anísio Teixeira (INEP), a Brazilian governmental organization which, among other matters related to the quality of education in Brazil, carries out official educational assessments and exams.

The heiSKILLS Competence and Language Center in Heidelberg is an authorized examination center for Celpe-Bras. This exam certifies the candidate at four levels of competence:

- Intermediate (equivalent to B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

- High intermediate level (equivalent to B2, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)

- Advanced level (equivalent to C1, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)

- High advanced level (equivalent to C2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)

Registration for the exam is carried out on the official Celpe-Bras exam website and it is not necessary to indicate a specific level, as it is the result of the exam that will determine the level of proficiency indicated.

The Brazilian Ministry of Education only offers two exam dates per year - so don't miss the opportunity to register for the exam.

Next exam date: October,  2025

Current information about the exam and the registration procedure can be found here (as soon as it is published by the Brazilian government)
